Ashley Olson - Personal Trainer
Hello! This is my personal fitness story. I hope it is an inspiration to you, the hope you need to know it's never too late to begin your fitness journey and you do not have to give up living your life to do it.
I have always had an interest in fitness, even growing up as a teen I remember doing Tae Boe with Billy Blanks in my basement. Through college I was not as active, I took a volleyball course one semester and joined the community college's fitness center, but I honestly had no clue what I was doing and typically hoped on the elliptical or treadmill for 30-45 minutes a few times a week. During college I also picked up horrible eating habits. I would literally go to Wendy's 1-2 times a day and get their home style chicken sandwich with a large Dr. Pepper and fries. At the time, I was young and my metabolism was able to keep up. That quickly changed my senior year of college. I remember putting on some of my favorite jeans one morning and I couldn't get them to zip! I was mortified. This was the beginning of my wake up call. Unfortunately, I was uninformed. I reduced what I was eating, gave up my beloved Dr. Pepper and tried to do my best to eat very little during the day. It worked... for a while.
After marrying my best friend in 2009, the “happy” weight snuck up and I found myself not feeling comfortable in my own clothes. In the city I was living there was a big running movement by a local running store, so I decided to check it out as all the runners I saw were slender. After a couple months I was encouraged to train for my first half marathon. I was running 20 plus miles a week still striving for that ‘toned’ look that I was longing to have. Sure, I lost weight and my old clothes started to fit again, but I hated running and dreaded almost every run because of the pain I experienced. Also, I was still not happy with what I saw in the mirror. I completed my half marathon that Fall. I continued to run about 2-3 times a week, but because I had dramatically reduced my miles the weight piled on... quickly!
Thankfully, my good friend asked me to join her for an all women's bootcamp starting the following February. Over the course of a couple months my interest in nutrition and weight training started to take shape. I wasn't afraid to work hard, but now I was learning how to work efficiently. I was educated and guided in the direction of heavy weight training and proper nutrition through Flexible Dieting (IIFYM). I learned that restricting food/calories was not the answer. In fact, your body is a powerful machine that can respond better than ever when you create a balance intake of calories called macros (protein, carbs, fat). I also learned that I did not have to give up the foods I enjoyed for the sake of reaching my fitness goals. Oh, and I needed to be eating MORE, not LESS, like I had previously done.
Over the past ten years, I have gone through my own lifestyle transformation and I continue to learn and educate myself. The physical transformation has been great, but my mental transformation has been the best. I am confident with myself and I could care less what that number on the scale tells me in the morning. It no longer defines who I am.
My mission and goal is to see you succeed and meet your personal fitness goals; whether that be weight loss, inches lost, mental transformation, etc. I always tell my clients I will become their go-to person when it comes to nutrition and fitness. I am here for you, whenever you need.
I can’t wait to begin this health & fitness journey with you!
